What do you guys know about this one? Its screw top but it doesnt look like the seems go clear to the top. How long ago did they start making screw tops. Its embossed PO-DA-CRO BAK AKE PILLS, thought that was a pretty neat name.

neat bottle.  I like those little pill bottles.  I believe they started making screw tops as early as the 1850's, but very rarely besides jars.  The screw cap for bottles seems to have caught on as early as the 1890's when more and more bottles started showing up with ground top screw caps and tooled top screw caps.  The majority of the tooled top screw caps seem to date from the period between 1900 and 1910, Most right in the middle somewhere.

Probably dates to post 1906 (which was when the Pure Food & Drug Act began to further regulate what folks could call "cures" and such).  This would explain the odd spelling -"BAK AKE" instead of "Back Ache" - (much like the common Washington DC "Harper's Cuforhedake Brain Food", which Harper started using after he could no longer call it "A Positive Cure For Headache").

Thanks for the info guys. I never thought of the weird spelling being a way to get around the pure food & drug act.
