How do YOU feel about a show on TV about bottle digging??

Altho it would be kool to see some kick azz bottles being dug ..to protect our hobby I believe a tv show would not only get a bunch of people digging bottles legally an ilegally it would also make it to a point that everyone will think they have thousands of dollars worth of bottles in a old dump on their property or in a old privy that it would be next to impossible to find a spot to dig... just like american pickers has hurt my antique hunting ..an storage wars has hurt my auction hunting..this show will end up doing the samething....

If only bottle people watched it it would be great but as soon as the general public sees it permisions will be history ! Media Whore Diggers will **** off the archaeologists & landowners and we will all suffer . Just like when the first guy doesn't fill in their hole or leaves sinkholes ...we all suffer . Everyone with a pre 1900 home will assume their yard has dozens of colored pontiled meds & historical flasks ! I hope this idea doesn't get off the ground .

What would be the benefit of having a show about digging bottles? If and only if it was to relate to preserving history and the joy of digging....then I would approve.

I said bad. I wish there was not good but oh well. While I wouldn't want it to happen or be a part of it, I know I'd watch it if it was made.

That's the point. It will be made or it won't. What we say here or in the other post won't really make a difference. Like I said before, it's all about the money. You said bad? Eric, your anonymity is showing.

"I could have bottles worth HOW much buried in my yard?!". Right now, you guys (I haven't dug a dump since the 70s myself when we dug all the local ones out pretty much) are just digging interesting junk out of their yards. When they learn that a good colored flask or ink could be worth thousands, you are either going to lose permissions that you would otherwise get, or have to cut some deals with homeowners that you are not going to want to do.

That Wilmington dig that we were just all drooling over... if that construction crew knew that ONE bottle out of that batch would be on ebay pushing 3 grand... you think our guy on here would have had a shot at it?

Great point, I like you qualify it in that you are not an active digger so greed & jealousy cannot be your motive. Since non diggers like Lobey seems to imply that is our reason for opposing publicity every time this forum discussion pops up.They post only to instigate emotion in others that it will actually affect.

have to agree...
you would have people abusing permissions or none at all, holes everywhere . nobody backfilling ect ect ect.....look what tv did for poker..world series of poker went from 100 entries to well over 15000....everyone thinks they can be a pro poker player..its hard enough now finding virgin areas to search and dig ,dont need the additional competition..I want them all for myself...lol

That pretty much sums it up as far as I'm concerned. Well said.

BEFORE COLLECTING BOTTLES I COLLECTED ANYTHING ANTIQUE ALWAYS GOT GREAT BUYS AT YARD SALES, ESTATE SALES, FLEA MARKETS, NOW THAT WE HAVE ANTIQUE ROADSHOW, PICKERS AND A FEW OTHER SHOWS, MOST PEOPLE WILL NOT SELL OLD THINGS JUST TO GET RID OF THEM WHEN THEY NEED ROOM OR ARE MOVING, EVERYTHING IS BEING APPRAISED SO THE DEALS ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. BOTTLE COLLECTING IS GREAT ANYONE I TELL THAT I COLLECT OLD BOTTLES THEY ALWAYS SAY WHY AND I HAVEN'T MET ANYONE WHO COLLECTS YET AND I LIKE IT THAT WAY SO I WOULD HAVE TO SAY NO FOR THE TV SHOW.
