Paint removal - 1/18/2007 3:58:38 PM    JGUIS   Posts: 1712 Joined: 3/18/2006 From: New Lexington, OH Status: offline I have a small 2 handle vase that is light blue glaze inside the neck and mouth.  The rest is covered in 22kt gold, and has Hand Decorated WARRENTED 22 K GOLD U.S.A. on the base, also in gold.  Someone painted it red over the gold.  I want to remove the paint without damaging the gold, and thought I remembered reading something about gold being one of the only naturally acid resistant metals.  Would oxalic do it, or shoud I try some kind of petrol based stuff?  Pic later. _____________________________ A pipe gives a wise man time to think, and gives a fool something to stick in his mouth. Regular paint remover should do it if it is real gold. Gold paint wont last 60 sec though. It was probably painted to hide scratches or scrapes in the guilding but there are specialists who can repair it.
