I have no idea what this rock type thing is? I found it along the side of creek bank about six feet up the back while out creek walking for bottles. Don't ask me how I picked this rock thing out but it caught my eye. The center grey part appears to be a rock or mineral. The outside material is brown and is flaky or softer than the grey but is still hard like a rock or mineral. My wife thinks it is petrified wood around a rock. How this would happen I don't have a clue!!

On this side the grey material pokes through the brown material. Wow, that sounds strange, lol!!!

It kinda looks like iron ore.  The clay and shale form around the iron in layers, often resulting in rounded shells.  The center should be the ore.  Just a guess from the pics. I do know that petrified wood always keeps its grain.
