I was out three weeks ago digging for bottles in this rocky area near my home, found a broken Wahoo bitters panel, then out pops this pipe bowl . Entirely complete besides the stem( Probably a used up discarded pipe) and right next to it was a blue bead with corn cob shape and designs on it. I couldnt pass up adding my first whole arrowhead ,of the year, to the picture! A Perkiomen Broadpoint!!! Beautiful white flint ridge with a crystal pocket and a red dot in the material!!!!

That pipe bowl is from the 1850's and up (a little), so it's an early one. The bead could be from that same era. Talk about a spearpoint, that's a real goodie! Congratulations on the finds!

the pipe is a reed stem pipe . you provided the stem. sometimes the bowl was given free with tobacco purchase. good find !

Diggerjeff, the pipe is actually the normal pipe, not a reed-stem pipe. I have dug a number of them, usually fron New York State militia camps. The point behind that rib at the beginning of the stem is a weak popint, in my opinion, as many have been found with similar breakage points. If I can find one in my groups of excavated pipes, I'll post a picture for all of us to see. By the way, because they seem to be related to NY sites, I believe that they may have been manufactured in New York, but they did come from England (also).

I definetly agree , Mike. This appears, as with many old style pipes to have been broke off at the stem as the pipe was used. At the stem it is broke, snapped off. It was not made this way. Maybe you can tell us how long the stem on a pipe like this usually was? I would appreciate the info. Thanks , John
