Privies-more than bottles - 4/20/2003 1:42:22 PM    Guest Although bottles were my main objective, I have found that by sifting the material before it goes back into the hole, (or taking the material home if it is wet), many coins, tokens, etc. that you would not see while digging, are found. This goes for digging old wells too. I have found hundreds of old saloon tokens, coins and jewlery by screening the material. I even found 3 gold pieces that were not seen while digging or dumping the material into the back of my truck. Once I was digging a privy and was about to the bottom when one of my sons came to see how I was doing. He was standing above me where I was throwing the dirt. He said " what are all these coins you are throwing out?" . I had thrown out hundreds of saloon tokens that I had not seen!.   Post #: 1

RE: Privies-more than bottles - 4/20/2003 2:04:23 PM    Guest i found 135 bennington marbles in the bottom corner of one dig, and a nice whorehouse token in another.lots of old bone toothbrushes and dozens of douch tips have come up over the years. i dont admit to collecting douch tips, but i do have a good collection of chamberpots. i also have started collecting outhouses. i have aquired my second one and would like 20 or 30 more .i live in the country and have plenty of room for them.
