Privy Digging - 2/6/2003 3:33:48 PM

Can anyone tell me if concrete privies were ever around? I live in a house that was built circa 1930, but according to the man who grew up in the house, before it was built he and his family lived in the upstairs of the barn. He was born around 1915 or so and is now passed. Beside the barn in the rear approximately 20 yards from it is a square concrete slab and affixed to the slab is what appears to be a oval stool? The stool has 2 bolts coming from the top of it near what i think is the back and old hinges affixed to the bolts. Is it possible this is the remains of the old privy?
Please help I am new to the whole bottle digging deal.

I' ve heard of privies made of stone, brick, even wood, but I suppose it could be possible to be made from concrete.
Since concrete is relatively new, I doubt you will find any older bottles in there.

I also say; " Nothing ventured, nothing gained" .

Check it out!!!

concrete privys are mostly w.p.a .from war time ww2 .they are newer and can hold water. i dont dig them.i like older bottles. could be older but i doubt it. look for something else on the property if the house looks old.i bet there is at least 1 older privy on the property.that was used from 1930 to war time.could find sodas milks beers.i have found privys in barns.and behind barns. if he grew up poor there might not be much early stuff.
