Long day on the farm! We knocked over the old outhouse..litterally, Sledge hammered thru the concrete, dug and dug and found......JUNK!!!! 1970's JUNK....LOL! I hate the 70's after today..hehe! And to think who knows how much more junk I'll find tomorrow. I did find this nice bottle befind the privy...Right in plain site. Not sure if it's anything tho. Hope everyone had a good dig today. Farmgal...

I was saying that sarcastically    If the outhouse is still standing the chances are, some one used it in our life time, and thats to new to dig.I herd of a few people finding 19th century bottles in a outhouse that was still standing but its a rarity.
If the your house is old enough,I would check (around) the standing outhouse for sunk in spots. Most of the time they used the same general area to dig the pits. But the more land you have the greater the chances of the privy's being anywhere with in walking distance.Obviously you don't want to do the 100 yard dash to the john.

LOL you scared me!!! Hey with 15 dogs I know @#$@ well!!! Our house is from the 30's i believe but it was an old grain bin dating back before that. But the the original owners had a house on the property closer to the barn and I think that was the out house for their house. I'm just confused why the concrete slab was build over the 1970s junk I'm finding? There did seem to be other concrete that had sunk in on the sides of what we removed today. We removed what was the concrete slab that was the floor of the outhouse...that make more sense??? farmgal....feeling very green to diggin :D

They probably put the slab there back in the day, to block off the stink.
