We dug a few woodliners in Baltimore yesterday one produced a few 1870s-80s bottles and another produced a couple 1850s pontiled puffs. the last pit produced a nice reddish puce open pontiled utility probably blown at a Baltimore glass house in the mid to late 1840s Being it was the only decent bottle found I opted to buy out my digging partiners shares and add it to my collection. heres a picture of it with an olive green and a yellow amber open pontiled utilties that were also dug in baltimore last year and very likely are also localy made pieces as I've dug similar broken ones on many digs in Baltimore these other molds also occure in other colors including shades of topaz and puce.

Cap it depends on what you consider common. Smooth based embossed bottles I bring home any I get in the pick and save them up and sell them on ebay and at the Baltimore bottle show in March. Smooth based slicks. I actually bring any of the 1860s ones home but unembossed post 1870 stuff unless it has an interesting shape, lip, color, or is really crude usually just goes back in the hole when we fill it in. I just like to try to post pics of some of the more unusual finds so other collectors can see and learn about them. And to hopefully encourage more people to get out there and dig. And I mean who wants to hear about all the 1920s ketchup’s and machine made jars in the tops of the privies we dig.

Chris

Killer bottle Chris, you should send it to me.It would look great next to the little master ink I have. The others aren't shabby either.Great bottles. It's getting cold outside, you will feel it tommorrow. It still beats the heat when you can get in the ground, though.Doug

Doug,

I know it was pretty bitter today. We are digging tomorrow in Wilmington Del with a predicted high of 28. You just reminded me to wash my coveralls because I'm going to need them tomorrow. Yeah If you ever get tired of that little ink I'd be more then happy to give it a good home. I think I may start a pontiled utility thread. so everyone can post pics of there favorite utilties.

Chris

Well the ketchup's are usually 8 sided unembossed and are practically indestructible. Bricks and stones bounce right off them and shatter the local blob beers and pharmarcys. Shovels don't chip them. But they are always there to get your hopes up then shatter them.

Beautiful bottles, Chris! Colored, local and pontiled, it doesn't get much better than that.

Ketchups, on the other hand....I hate those things! They give me nightmares about being stuck in a 1930s ash dump for eternity. ~Jim

I know for a fact chris will not sell that bottle as from the words out of his mouth "it has been numbered, and placed into the collection not coming out" but a 10,000 dollar offer might change his mind ha

Blade,

I think Ry beat me to the answer on this one lol. I only collect Baltimore Glassworks stuff. So anything thats attributable to Baltimore i like. I wouldn't consider selling unless for crazy money and even then I may turn it down. I however would consider it towards a trade for a good pontiled Baltimore soda Or a baltimore torpedo or ten pin I don't have. I will try to get some better pictures of my utility collection today.

Chris

Doug,

I can't say I have one with that embossing and yellow is a pretty hard color to find the closest I have is one of the three BOYD-BALT. torpedoes I have. Sadly it has some lip damage but so does the other one known in that color. If you have one with that embossing your more then welcome to mail it to me for authentication! LOL
