Purple Bottle - 2/2/2012 7:45:41 PM    markroutt   Posts: 15 Joined: 2/2/2012 Status: offline I purchased this purple glass bottle last night with a collection of others at an auction and was wondering if anyone could identify it for me. I am new to bottle collecting so any help is appreciated. It measures 6 1/2 inches tall. The words PAT'D APRIL 21st 1896 are located on the bottom. Thank you. (Near scenic Lake Perfidy) Status: online Cool looking bottle,...It may have been exposed to atificial UV light source to accelerate the purpling of the glass. Normally it would make it less desireable (to me) , but it's a matter of personal taste. I don't usually like it, (artificially irridated bottles) but in this case I think It looks good on that particular bottle. A plain bottle like that is okay, but a more rare or desireable or historic bottle that someone did that too, I would say it would devalue it. I've picked bottles out of dumps that have turned at least this dark or darker. Usually you can tell the difference af a nuked bottle because the color is just a little "off" but that "sense" only comes with handling many bottles. Either way it has little monetary value - a couple bucks - but as has been said, it would certainly look good in the sun. And with a few other different colors and shapes could make a very nice display. (in reply to markroutt) Post #: 10
