RE: Question about stoneware jug? - 9/1/2008 9:15:08 PM    beendiggin Posts: 740 Joined: 6/30/2005 Status: offline They were very common by the turn of the century and held just about any liquid you can think of.  Syrups, booze, vinegar, poisons, cider....whatever.  The 2 stands for 2 gallons.....but you probably knew that.  They sell for about $20.00 around here,  unless they have some manufacturers product name on them, then they go higher depending on the writing.  Sometimes you find them with colorful labels which always make them look better and adds value.
