Rare St Louis Medicine Bottle For Trade or Sell - 2/4/2012 7:18:09 AM    stlouisbottles   Posts: 213 Joined: 12/10/2003 Status: offline I have a really rare medicine bottle I would like to trade or possible sell. ALEX DEITCH APOTHECARY CORNER 4TH & OLIVE STS. SAINT LOUIS. The odd thing about this bottle is that there is a misspelling in the last name on the bottle, the name should be LEITCH and it is DEITCH. The next thing is the bottle is clear in color with a little yellow gray color in the base, I have not seen another one like this in my 25 plus years of collecting. The bottle is a true civil war era bottle as all of the Leitch I have seen are pontiled. I will take $425.00 or best offer or trade for other St Louis bottles. I am actively looking for St Louis blob beers, ale's and colored soda's. I am also looking for Illinois soda's from Alton Belleville Darmstadt Frogtown Highland O'Fallon Waterloo. There are quite a few east cost medicines made in flint glass that are 1840s-50s that are smooth base. The color looks like they were going for clear and screwed up the batch. I was recently researching a smooth based bottle we only find in pontiled pits here that turned out to be pre 1860 and from the advertisements could be as early as 1852. Again its a clear flint glass bottle. I think if you wanted a smooth base bottle in the 1840s-50s you could get it but it likely cost more so it was not a common thing ordered by most druggists. W.B. LAWRENCE ST LOUIS MO. 9 3/8 inches tall and it is 3 3/4 wide. This bottle appears to be pontiled, possibly a sand pontil. It does have a crack running down the front about six inches long to the base. This is another one that is the only one known to exist. Leitch & Co / Apothecaries / St. Louis looks to be pretty early.
