9 bids on it so far. Looks nice, but I don't know anything about historical flasks.

I'd say fake.  Looks like a cup mold base and I think these were hinge mold.  Also there looks to be absolutely no base wear.  Very pretty though.

Yep.  I was curious to see what the seller would say if I asked and he said it was a Spanish reproduction.  The ad is pretty misleading with it's "appears to be" statement.  He didn't put the question and answer in the ad either.

Yeah, that is a pretty slimy description for that auction. Anybody who's bidding on that should know better though, so they might learn the hard way.

Just to clarify, this one was real, right? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260459937891&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT
I don't know anything about these, but when you compare the 2, the one I just linked to looks 'right' and the other one looks 'wrong'.
Thanks!

Okay, I am going to take a wild guess without lookig at the responses.  I am a Sagittarius, so I am honest.
I will say fake, because, it just looks too perfect.  It could be attic condition, which would explain the lack of wear (casewear?), and it being so mint, but it's just a hunch.  Looks sort of '70's to me.
I'll either be laughing at myself, or thinking I still have a lot to learn when I get to the bottom of this thread.

Aha!  Maybe I am correct.  Nice example Kate.  I see what you mean about the second one.  Has a different feeling to it as well like you said.

I'm borrowing pictures for educational purposes.
Good? (If this is fake, it would fool me)

Not good? Just looks not right. It's the sunburst in the center that really bothers me, but It just doesn't look right. Too wide? When I compare those 2, the 2nd one just doesn't... compare, that is.

This one doesn't. Can anybody clarify this or tell me if I'm off base? I'm definitely still learning. But the long stretched out bubbles on the last picture really look more like what I expect in old glass.

I agree.  The first one has bubbles, but they look fake.

There're a lot of differences when you compare these two that I just can't put into words. Just the way the glass looks different when you look through it... does that make sense?

Your "real" one is cloudier and looks more authentic.  I hear you about the bubbles too.  First one just looks to perfect.

What really amazes me is that this is a prominent collector/seller. It is a very misleading auction, it is listed under antique bottles, so I have to believe that the high bidders think it is the real deal. If you ask, you get the correct answer it is not an authentic period flask but an 1920 Spanish piece, but the answer will not be posted in the auction listing. Is this is an outward attempt to deceive? I cannot comprehend how someone with such a stellar reputation can do this. I have always held this dealer in the highest regard, now I don't know what to think. I do know that I want to email the winning bidder at the end to let them know, none of my business really, but I can't stand to see someone taken that way. What do you all think, should I email them or just let it go?? ....Bill
