Here`s a repro Bixby bottle I found on eBay recently, I went for it because it didn`t have any embossing, and being the Bixby nut that I am, I had to have it! It turns out that it is machine made, has no embossing at all, and as you can see in the pictures, is identical to a real one, right down to the funky V shaped lip. I wonder if these were made in other colors? I`ll have to start checking out the local gift shops and stores!

I`m pretty sure of it. Bixby last used this style of bottle in the early 1890`s, then they went to the squared version, then to the regular straight sided ones, and even these were blown by hand. By the time Bixby had machine made bottles, they were well into using only the straight sided ones we are all familiar with as shoe polish bottles. It did have me wondering a bit at first also, though. The seams, the glass texture, and the way the lip was made in a seperate part of the mold with the seam going over the lip plus around under it is too similiar to the modern bottles you see in the stores today.

I think that someone in a glasshouse somewhere that makes the new stuff for the gift shops got a hold of a Bixby and just copied the shape. I don`t think it was made on purpose to fool people, just something to sell in a Home Goods store or Walmart. That`s my theory anyway. I might be way off the mark too.

Could be some other shoe polish company copied the Bixby bottle design and put their own label on it about 1910.
