With the opperssive heat here in MI (100 today) Ive been going to sales instead of digging. Got some Indianhead pennies and a batch of early nickels. No silver this time. Hopefully Ill find some more interesting things this weekend. Or at least some good reading material.

I hit a few this morning, didn't come up with anything. One had quite a bit of fenton, but way out of my price range.  Were you able to get a good deal on the coins? Seems like thats one thing we can't ever get a deal on down this way

Got a great deal today at sale no1. I couldnt believe what I got. 1881 3cent pc (as close to ms-60 as they come) a 1876 shield nickel in vg, a 1936 buffalo nickel in xf, a 38-p jefferson in ms-60, a 1891-o seated dime in xf, and a 1916-s in au++ for......40 bucks. That alone made my day.
Bought a few books, and odds and ends but the coins were a great deal. Probably go again tomorrow and hopefully find another bargain somewhere. I know those deals dont happen everyday but you never know.

Also forgot to mention the Wm Rogers silverware set I got (in the original wood box) for 5 bucks!!! But I was more excited about the coin deal. I figure the silverware (plated) will bring an easy 75 bucks.

Law of statistical avaerages got me today. Only got one buy today at an estate sale. Some old bottles, and some General motors memorabilia. Other than that not a thing to be found unless one needed western paperbacks, kids clothes, or overpriced used tools!

I thought today was going to be a bust - not many yard sales, lots of baby clothes, but the last one saved the day - old stuff everywhere, the lady says 'just make a pile, we'll give you a bulk price'... couldn't make the pile fast enough! Crocks, wooden boxes, glassware, even a few blobs and milks, we each made a big pile, and the price was right! Got the old 1930's radio below, there were 2 others but I just took the nicest one...

Also got this great yelloware mixing bowl with a seaweed design - this alone was worth (a lot) more than I paid for the lot!

Wow - great finds!! We hit a few this morning on the way to an auction, picked up a picnic table that folds away, and a new fire place grate. No luck at the auction though

Yes sometimes its either the very first sale or the last one you score at. The coin deal was at the very 1st one. And had I not inquired if they had "any military items or coins" I never wouldve got them!! Went to 1 today but nothing there I could use. Just like bottle digging its the hunt thats exciting.

We usually get a paper Thursday morning and start watching areas. Interestingly enough, we usually do better at single sales than the big subdivion sales. But, then again I do find some things at those too. The estate sales run by pros can be so-so. Sometimes they will deal sometimes not. Just depends upon the items I guess. On occasion I leave my number, and have had some people call back and bought coins from them. May go digging again tomorrow as its going down in the 50s so the bugs and heat wont be bad in the morning. Good luck to all.

I do  the same thing down here digger. Our sales start getting posted on wednesday night on the newspaper websites. I make my dad out a list for him to hit on his way to work on fridays. I try to get out on my way to work and during lunch. Then again on saturdays if I'm not auctioning. We don't have may put on by the pros down here. Is that popular up there? Theres a crowd down here in Chillicothe that hits them all on fridays right at opening time, so a lot of times its hard to find a lot of good stuff on my lunch hour. I always seem to do better with the ones that are out of town on the back roads. Down in the 50's tomorrow up there??? Its been staying about 70 here at night right now.

Well, its the estate sales that are run by auction houses I usually find that are overpriced. I know they have to get a cut of the pie but most times I could buy the same item for 1/2 of their price. Sometimes I find a bargain but not often at those type sales. Yes it was in the 50s this am when I watered the garden.
What type of mason jars are you looking for? I do have some Id like to sell and clean out the garage. May donate a bunch of 20s-40s stuff to Goodwill/Salvation Army I know they sell odds and ends. Just have too much. Now I know why people leave the common stuffs.

We dont get many of those sales run by the auction companies out here in the boonies..maybe more so in places like Columbus. I'm basically collecting any and all jars at this point, haven't focused my collection much yet, as it is still so small. I did decide to stay local on my bottles. Right now most of my jars are mason patent 1858's. I have 1 swayzees and 1 lightning. How far are you from Toledo? My wife's family lives up there and we get up that way every couple months.

Probably a couple hours trip Id imagine just east of Flint. Got the paper today but not many sales. We supposedly got 4 inches of rain and more coming. We needed it bad, drought like conditions but it will make the gardens take off.
Either way Id like to go looking tomorrow and see whats out there.

Glad to hear you guys got the rain if you needed it. Its been at fairly steady intervals down here so far, enough to keep our garden going anyway. I've got a few sale on my list for in the morning. We're gonna try to get to some flea markets saturday, no auctions down here this weekend. They're calling for rain here saturday, so we may have to push it back to sunday. Hope you find some bargains if you do hit some sales this weekend!

Up here there are a lot of professional sales they call them "tag" sales. I avoid those. They are mostly in Akron and Cleveland. I get some good stuff at garage sales but you got to be the first one there. There's always a box or 2 of bottles that the kids dug up in the woods but they are mostly all junk except for some local milks.

Thats the same way it is in Chillicothe..I did pretty well today. 3 boxes of canning jars, a kraut cutter, metal scoop, box of silverware, hanging scale, wooden dairy box, 2 man saw, ice saw (i think). Best day at yard sales I've had in a while. The professional sale thing must only be in the big cities, maybe there just wouldn't be enough buisness out here in the boonies
