It seems like the best bottles always come when least expected.  After finally having enough time to investigate this property, we found a string of privies just feet from the back door of a mid 1860's farm house.  Most of the bottles produced from the first pit were the common wines, aqua sodas, and utitlies, but right in the back corner was this Fish's standing upright, waiting to be released from it's 145 year old chamber.  A post-dig wash of the bottle found it to be whittled, bubbly, sparklematic 1860's western glass at it's finest !

Find any Wm. H. Keiths or  B.B. Thayers in the digs?

Andrew,
Nice finds...If I could dig anywhere else except Hawaii it would probably be San Francisco...Hawaii seems to have a lot of ties with S.F. in the early days...Here in Hawaii we come across quite few whiskeys, sodas and a other bottles  from S.F. unfortunately so far no one has found a gravitator Hollister Honolulu yet in Hawaii like the one you found...How strange the only few example that I know of is from the Bay...My friend purchased that bottle from you, at least I got to see the bottle in person...Aloha Earl

That last post was supposed to be in a huge font size, but my computer wont cooperate! Is this a joke? did you really dig that thing today? That is an amazing bottle, I've seen them in catalogs before, they are as good as they get. Unless I'm being punked here, congratulations! AMAZING

It didn't come out today, but trust me...it's fresh !

Jason: No Keiths or Thayers, Classen sodas were the only other embossed western bottles.

Earl: SF can be productive, but the 1906 earthquake and the hilly topography of the city severely limit the possibility of finding undisturbed privies on most sites. Didn't a few Fish's come out of a dig in Hawaii a few years back ???
