So it has been raining for 2 days, I am going stir crazy, so I decided to go probing. In town we have this park called Harrison park. It goes all the way back to the underground railroad. There is a memorial and some old foundation still.

Check this link for more info.
http://www.osblackhistory.com/cairn.php

I was not probing anywhere close to the memorial, But I crossed the river and went about 200 meters up stream, I went into the woods and started walking and looking for signs of anything old. I stumble on a Man made structure just sticking out of the ground a bit, After probing around, and scraping some dirt away, I can see the outline of a 4ft by 4ft stone structure with a wood liner. I was going crazy at this point. I did pull out a broken bottle check the picture.

So my question. The site I found is in the middle of the woods, but is within 300 meters of that memorial to the underground railroad. I dont know if the two are connectted. Should I or Shouldn't I nuke the privy?

If this easies the pain...If you find 2 rare bottles..keep one and give the other to the histarical society.  I am digging a large dump and if I ever moved or absolutely am never gonna dig it again I would donate alot of bottles I found there to some local organization that would enjoy it and keep it long after I am gone.                        Ben

Hey everybody, Dig went alright, had to get down about 3 feet before hitting the sweet spot. Got 2 bottles, nothing great. I basically worked on getting the hole going. But this area may be bigger than I had thought. It may not be a privy, but a dump.  There seems to be another rotted out wood frame about 6 feet by 12 feet. Sorry no pictures forgot my camera.

Did they use to frame dumps?

I don't think they framed dumps but I have seen some amazingly large privys on old hotel and bar sites.
