First off, I know I should call them round bases or ballast bottles but I couldn't resist the title.  That being said, thought I'd post some pics of the round base sodas I have in my collection - I'd like to see what other bottles are out there of this type.  I have six total, four with paper label only and two embossed ones, all blob tops - dates range from 1875-1895.

Here's an Ingalls Bros. Lemonade from Portland, ME

This is a Stocksie from the Stockton Medicinal Spring Co. of Stockton Springs, ME.   This was a short-lived product, supposedly the Moxie Co. squashed it as a rip-off of the Moxie name.

Hey, Wayne, good to hear from you.  Not much progress on the ME medicinal bottle book lately, hopefully this winter I’ll get back on it and finish it up.  Feel free to shoot me any Qs you might have on ME bottles, might be able to provide some background info for you.

Michael, sounds like you have a Ross bottle from Belfast, Ireland.  The mixing ball sounds like it might be a floating ball stopper, if you can find the bottle post a pic so we can check it out.

LC, I use doll stands to display my round base bottles, they save the bottles from rolling around and they’re fairly inexpensive.  I just put a loop of clear tape on the base of the stand so the bottle won’t slip.  You can find them in most antique stores that carry supplies, they come in a few sizes and are adjustable – price is less than $2 each.
- Sam

Nice collection of round bases there otgb!  I've never seen one like the amber Ross before, looks awful wide for such a short height, can you post a close up of that one?

Later - Sam

Kind of rushed taking the pic in this rather dark room, but I think you can see them good enough. The top one is a Felix Fritz from Covington, Ky., and the other two are Belfast bottles, all three ginger ales. I also have a Ross somehwere, it is a clear round bottom with ROSS embossed in large letters. It is a bit larger than the largest one shown in the picture. Not at all attractive either. That is the first amber Ross I have seen.
