Diggin an old privvy I was using the metal detector and narrowed a beep down to three rocks, then two and finally this one rock kept beeping.  A friend of mine stopped by with his detector which put ours to shame.  He found a silver dime and I reached into my pocket and said see what this is....It came up as silver
At home that night....I put it in a vice and started tapping at it and low and behold this is what was under the stone.
.04 oz Silver nugget
enjoy

LOL I'm not touching this one with a 15 foot pole! Although the urge to start a rant is almost overwhelming. Somebody stop me! LOL

[time for a dumb off topic joke regarding your post]

i'll loan you our insulator grabber pole, it's near 30 feet give or take a few, should be long enough but it would be just plain obnoxious to poke the silver thing with it from 30 feet away

I was refering to it being used for monetary purposes. Highly unlikely. It might be silver slag or a natural silver find. You might be sitting on the next big silver mine in the US.
Lobey.

Who said those folks up in maple syrup country dont have a sense of humor! Well I'm here to tell ya their wrong, wrong it is I say! As wrong as proposing to your sister it is! I honestly burst out laughing, I did. (Am i getting that Vermont twang down?)
I'm sorry if I mis-understood. I was under the assumption that the man was digging a  c.1880+ crapper and not a Colonial pre Revolutionary slop house. I stand corrected Joel and I'm humbled.
Still looks like a piece of slag or maybe a horse filling to me though.

Peace man peace,
Lobey.

Brother Joel I truly meant no disrespect to you or the fine State of Vemont. I've been there many times and compared to this half city I reside in, it's truly a paridise. In fact I own a place in Maine I hope to retire to one day. So we'll be neighbors bud!! You and me, me and you argumentum ad ignorantiam(ing) till we die.

Again you humble and shame me,
Rick.

So this probably severly limits my chances of getting an invite to dinner then? Not very neighborly Joel.

well we do have some stamp collectors in our family, but not me. A wile ago our neighbor found a chunk of metal along the railroad tracks that looked just like yours, might have some relation to railroads.
