Snuff Bottle - 12/24/2003 12:04:51 PM    kawdog   Posts: 192 Joined: 10/22/2003 From: Ruston Louisiana Status: offline I found this snuff bottle in a creek and was wondering if anyone could look at the picture and give me their best guess on an age. I know it is not worth anything I am just curious as to dating the site and deciding if it is worth going back and looking for some more bottles. Any help would be appreciated. The seam stops at the lip and the lip is very crudely applied, there is an "X" on the bottom instead of the dots I usually find on snuff bottles, it is also a different shape than the others I have found. Snuff bottles are collectable and someone would be willing to add it to their collection. I've heard some people say that the X on the bottom of a bottle denotes Stoddard glass, but I don't know how much truth there is to that. Woody, interesting what you wrote about Stoddard glass works, I have seen a few bottles here with that X on the base (most of the bottles found in Australia where made here or in the UK but we get a lot of US made chemists and med bottles, mostly W.T.&Co).
