Aren't you a lucky bugger!!! nice wax sealer. you must be from Western Pa. or not too far away if I don't miss my guess by the color of the pottery. What are you going to do with it?

That is killer! Looks to be a butter churn but they usually have two handles, and I can't tell how big it is from the pic. I know it's a piece of saltglaze stoneware with a real awesome cobalt slip design. If on the smaller size it could be a storage jar. If you want to get rid of it let me know.

Killer salt glaze jar. How big is it? If you can clean it up pretty good you can get a good price out of that one unless you would just want to give it away to your newest bestest buddy ME!!! lol. Very nice find good luck with it.

Now if you just found a stoner with a green pot leaf on it that would really go for big bucks. If the bidders on that type of piece could keep their eyes open long enough to bid on it anyway. I was thinking some type of cannibus medicine at first until I saw this cute little stoner. Nice find. Let us know if your selling it. Swizzle

I think this is a croc but have no clue on value.  If somebody would give me a good offer i will sell it.  Right now it is soaking in muriatic acid to get the rust off and to get it looking like new.

How tall is it? Maybe it's just me but if its anymore then 15" tall I'd start it at $65 and see if you can get the offers to go up from there. If its shorter like less then a foot tall I'd start it at $35 and see if it goes up from there. If anyone disagrees with me then please do so openly. I'm no crock expert and anything that helps to expand my knowledge on the subject is appreciated. Don't get me wrong its a great looking crock and I can't wait to see the clean up pics. Swizzle

I don't want to shoot anyone out of the saddle here but you stick to the $100 you'll get it. Judging by the size and shape I'd bet it has a wax sealer type ring in the lip. The nicer decorated wax sealers hold their value quite well because they are easier to display. It looks like a Greensboro Pa. piece judging by the color of the stoneware.

I was saying start at $65 because I was kinda counting on the price going up a bit. I wasn't sure how much. Do you think he'd be better of ebaying it and setting his reserve at $100 or maybe add it to his own local auction house to see if it'll bring more? I'm glad you corrected me. I'd hate to see someone get less for something then they could have got due to a half-arsed guess. Swizzle

It would depend a lot on the size of the piece and the condition that it is in once you get all of the rust off of it. If you would like to get a good idea of value post it on ebay for a good size reserve and see how high it goes. There are a lot of collectors out there that would like to have one like it, I know that I would. Here is a pic of one of mine. It isn't as old as the one that you have but I like it. I put a yard stick behind it to show the size.

Hey Soccpacker...

Show us some more photos of that "crock" after it's cleaned up...  (and don't soak it too long in the muriatic acid just to get the rust off)  CLR will do a real good job on the rust and it is no where near as dangerous as the muriatic acid.  The crock will actually soak some the muriatic acid up, so make sure you rinse it off good and let it sit in fresh water for an equal amount of time if not longer. If you set it down on a table or painted surface, the acid will bubble up the paint and stain the surface that it sits on.)

Anything decorated with cobalt blue paint is worth at least a $100.00 if not more.  I found a decorated butter crock, similar to yours, and got a sweet $175.00 for it from a dealer at a bottle show!!  He in turn, sold it for $250.00

So, clean yours up real well... take photos of all angles, all decorations and the bottom and that will help people identify it, establish an age and make an educated value estimate.

I don't know what happened to my last post but it disappeared. I apologize if this repeats.

I collect cobalt decorated stoneware and recently sold a wax sealer on Ebay. Mine was from a well known PA potter with a stencil decoration. It also had 2 cracks and the stencil was blurred. It went for $50.00 which is what I expected.

The freely applied decoration such as your's usually sell better than stenciled pieces and condition will play a big part. If you can remove the rust and the rest is intact with no damage I would expect it to sell for $100.00 to $150.00.
If it had a pottery name or slip decoration such as flowers, animals, etc it would bring more, but most wax sealers didn't have that, they were too small.

I'd love to see it after it's been cleaned.
Good luck with it !

Here's mine from a few weeks ago:
