Hi Warren...

It's actually a Moche pot known as a saddle flask... This one depicts, among other things, the Hummingbird God...

Hi Guys...

Glad you like it... Actually, I misspoke... It's a stirrup handled flask... Time period is 200-800 AD...

My wife got it many years ago at an estate sale...

Hey, Kelly...

Pretty sure it's genny-wine... We sent it off to California for an appraisal about 15 years ago... The guy said it would be valued at $500...

Hi all,
Only $500???? That stinks!!!! You have pottery that is that old in that shape & only worth that?
I'd say it's pretty darn priceless, in my opinion. To survive all these years is just amazing. Thanks for sharing it!

I agree with Vicky. I'd like to think a peruvian museum would pay much more. Something like that is not easily replaced and should be considered a priceless
piece of history.

Yeah, I agree with Vicky, you probably got a good deal. I mean, it's not your typical pottery piece. The neck is unusual, and the decorations on it are real neat. Ron, I'd look into if it's worth more than that.
I was flipping through the channels last night and I came apon Ancient Glass for Sale on Home Shopping Network. I figured everything was probably overpriced, most of the glass, including some with basic decorations cost around 500-1000$, which seems really cheap to me, seeing it was of the same era as your pottery piece.
That's a real neat one.

Its not uncommon for dealers and appraisers to under quote the real value of a piece just to try to get it for the price they quoted. Then turn around and sell it for several thousand dollars. Jason

Hi everybody...

Regarding Bearswede's pottery piece and my Iberian (Spanish) Olive Jar, who knows who to trust as far as true value of a particular piece is... I just contacted several archeaologists and a private collector regarding the value of the Olive Jar that I found and the guy comes back and saiys that they are relatively common to find them on shipwrecks and it is worth about $350.00!!!

This one piece is a great find, just like Bearswede's... I don't know... I guess we are all afraid of selling something too cheap and then find out that the guy sold it a month later for ten times what he bought it for!!! I just don't know who to trust anymore... I guess I need to listen to the voice in the back of my mind saying, "Hold on to it... Hold on to it!"

Hey Wayne , I'll give you two shiney Quarters for it. Those are the kind of finds that should be put in a special brag display. They got to be worth way more than you guys have been quoted, their to cool not to be.

Thanks, Warren... I appreciate the compliment. When I brought this to the surface, the guy I work with said, "I can buy one of those at Pier One Imports." Just so you know, I also found that Stoddard Double Eagle flask next to a mooring that he had inspected several times... The guy's a Putz!

You won't see a photo of His thumb dude on this forum, I'll tell you that!
