First time poster! Poison bottle or not? Well, if you came into contact with the contents you would catch a very nasty disease - tuberculosis/TB/consumption. Whatever you call it, the disease has been extremely prevalent through history. Not sure if anyone has ever encountered sputum flaks before, but they are very rare and hard to find. Invariably in cobalt blue glass, they fit comfortably in the palm of the hand, have a larger than normal opening and the rare ones also have a drain hole in the base. First developed c.1880 they were in use for over 50 years and produced during this time. I am in the process of putting together a new book on the subject: see www.bluehenry.co.uk for a few examples. The author, Ivo Haanstra, has also registered, so we welcome anyone's input - perhaps you were not aware of what that strange double-ended, blue glass flask was before...???
