We started a pit today where the guy walked up last time we were there, and said he (dug all the pits) on this lot 7 years ago.He said "ohhh nooo these houses are 1890s the bottles were barely bimmil, there are only 2 privys on the lot".
That guy is tripin! I guess he didn't do his home work, because these homes are 1870.Never listen to a rival privy digger,he may not know what the hell-o  he is talking about
It took us a while to knock out a huge clay cap,but we found a bunch of decent stuff on top of the cap in an ash layer only three feet down. The bottom (should) have stuff, but who knows.Tomorrow we will go down

Hutches and blobs 3 feet into the pit.

Hey Rick    Looks like you should have some good age on the bottom. About the cuticura system bottle. No great lose they are pretty common we just dug 1 a couple weeks ago. We've dug them pretty often. Good luck with the rest of the pit.

That's the first time we ever came across one, then again we never dug a Dr K Swamp Root until we hit that cache  in that tavern pit.I guess it depends on what they liked that didn't work

Some interesting finds, Rick.  I hope you kept the one with the long winded name, even broken.  Cool stuff.  A privy like that would make our day.

You're into some good stuff already Rick. I love the hutches. The deep blue aqua one at left looks to have a very crude (offset) neck and blob in your picture (but it could be the angle). That Reading blob has to be every bit 1870s. If the top is 70s, imagine what might be below? Hope you land some beauties down there.
