Recently found here in Downeast Maine and I have no clue. Stoware bottle approximately 10" high with cobalt "M. P. Harryson" inscribed. Any help would be appreciated ...

Welcome to the Forum Downeast.  A bunch of nice helpful people here.  About your bottle, I would say it prob is a local piece.  ME has a lot of stonewares.  Value to start is over $40 - 60.  The thing with stoneys is the name will make it rare, common, or a life long quest to find more info.  Best of luck.

That is a nice find!  I'm not sure if this is a Maine bottler or not, but I do know that there are about 50 known variations of stoneware bottles from Maine. When I was ten years old I pulled a stoneware bottle like yours out of the muck near the Camden harbor. I wish I still had it, but I didn't know I'd be a bottle collector back then. Sam Fuller Jr. is likely to shed more light on your bottles history if its from Maine, which I think is likely.  He's from Searsport and a member on this forum.  What town did you find it in?  I can do some town research for you.    Anyway welcome to the forum!   If you want to dig together sometime, let me know.   I live in Waldoboro.

downeast,

Hello.  Nice bottle.  That name is listed in the update to "American Stoneware Bottles" by David Graci BUT there is unfortunately no information given about where it is from.  It is a safe bet that it is no newer than about 1874 and that it is from the northeast U.S.  As madpaddla said, it is worth a minimum of $60 if there is no damage.  A lot of bottles have chips on the inside edge of the lip or on the bottom edge.  I also agree that it is VERY difficult to found out anything about the names on some of these stoneware bottles unless maybe there is a known version made of glass.  Did you dig or or buy it?   Either way, it is a nice one.  Good job!  stonebottle
