Anyone care to guess the original purpose of this jar?
I saw a similar jar today and they called it a sugar jar.

It's hard to tell from a picture but it looks kind of newish to me and could have been made to hold anything.

By the looks of the lid -it's a tight fit for whatever it holds-i would venture a guess and say tobacco-i like the design of the glass.

I never thought of it as being used for tobacco. Thanks for that.

I likle that jar! I'd use it for candy or nuts, or something like trailmix.

It's a sugar jar for a Hoosier kitchen cabinet in the zipper pattern. I found the exact same jar for $1 at a sale about a month ago and wasnt sure exactly what it was so had to look it up online, though I was pretty sure it was part of a kitchen cabinet glassware set. Mine has a patent date faintly embossedon the bottom around the mold mark. Just like yours, mine is missing the original tin lid and wire stand that it sat in.
