Was out digging a dump today, and happened across this crock. It's about 8 inches tall and looks like it would have had a handle at one point. It appears to have been painted green at one point, but a lot of the paint is flaking off. There are no makers marks at all, but maybe somebody recognizes the design? Posted this in post 1900 because that's the age range that everything else was. I found items ranging from 1910 to around 1940.

YUP! I'd also say Syrup Pitcher. It probably had a metal pouring spout and lid cemented on and the handle you mentioned. My Wife collected these things and still has a few Milk Glass examples in a china hutch.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. :-)

I haven't cleaned it up too much yet because I wasn't sure if scrubbing the paint off would destroy some of the character of it. Seeing as it's already a little bit damaged with the missing handle, It might not be a bad thing to do because I'm pretty sure it's lead based paint.

I would never have thought of it being a syrup jug, but that picture posted above sure does look like the same shape. Any idea if the age is about right (1910-1940), or if I've stumbled on something earlier?

Thanks!

John

I am not expert, but I would say 1920-1940. I may be wrong, I have been before..... experts?

It's probably closer to the 1910 part of the equation you presented. It is an old form, updated...
