Meech came up for a few days so we went prospecting. We looked around Steubenville for a bit Thursday Night but ended up heading over to Wellsburg W.Va. To dig on Friday. We stopped at a few places with no luck but got permission to probe and dig on three downtown lots around noon. After probing out a hole we got started. Brick was covering the hole about 6" down so it was quite difficult to know if we were over anything or not. After a few feet we hit one of the wood-lined walls. Then, we made one of the corners. It was milks and 1920's bottles the whole way down. My brother Craig came after he finished working around 5ish. He helped dig until dark. We found Three "Queen Colas" embossed "PERRIN-WELLS CO.", two "COLD WAVE ICE & BOTTLING CO. / IRONTON, O." mugbase crowntop sodas, two "JA- MOKA" sodas marked "BIRMINGHAM, ALA." one "CHERO-COLA" embossed "SENECA, S.C." and two milks. One is a "WELLSBURG DAIRY PRODUCTS" and one from of all places Wisconsin "PASTEURIZED MILK AND CREAM / SHEBOYGAN FALLS / CREAMERY Co. / SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WIS." when I went back today to finish the hole I found a broken amber Wheeling Coca-Cola. and also a nice pint 1858 Mason's with a circled "E" near the heal heal on the front. Then there are the marbles. We found quite a few nice early slags, a nice three color Bennington type, and several clay and china marbles. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure.
