i along with two other guys dug 5- 33 gallon trash cans full in a total of seven pits from one backyard, in one long day. my buddy got the dig and first pick of the day . i won the flip for second pick, the other guy got third pick . it took over two hours to divide, and 2 trashcans full were left with the homeowner. we were all pleased that day. but the adverage take is less than that. at this point i am just happy to see something i dont have . its also a great workout, i always feel good after a dig. i took 150 out of a dump sight one day when some trucks were dumping some dirt from a new building construction site that sat on an old town dump. i dug the 2 acre dump site heavly for the next 2 years and recovered thousands of bottles. have found hundreds of marbles, ceramic doll heads ,and parts, false teeth ,knives ,ammunition whole intact eggs from 5 -6 feet deep. you name it it might have gone down the toilet!! dig with a friend and be safe.

Here are a few pics from a dig in Melbourne, these pics are from the AABC, the site was an old recycling yard that was full of stone ginger beer bottles when all the manufactures went from stone to glass bottles due to the law suit. The companies did not want the stone bottles back so the owner of the yard just buried them in the yard.
When these pictures were taken the diggers had recovered almost 3000 whole ginger beer bottle by hand digging and there were thousands more there smashed.
I was not on the initial dig but I did get a dig later on and found a few good bottles as well.

Chris - don' t worry about quantity - it' s the thrill of the experience that counts. I have been on several digs and never come home with more than a dozen " keepers" and sometimes only two or three. But I can look at each of my finds and remember the excitement of uncovering the beauty: what the day was like, the pit, what else I found, etc. When my Dad and I came home from fishing trips, we used to share the thrill of it all with my Mom. It wasn' t just the fish in the bucket that mattered it was even the great fish stories about the ones that got away. My favorite dug bottle probably isn' t worth more than $10 to anyone else, but it is a treasure to me. So keep diggin' those holes and have fun! I don' t live anywhere near a bottle dump - I' d give my eye teeth to be getting my hands dirty right now! --Andy

I might have more luck at the Willie Hearst Property soon.
