Searched an old campground and a bit of digging. Found a few bottles, My friend (newbie) got a nice Coke and some odds and ends. I got some copper wire, and a small bottle (looks like a pill bottle but says permatex on it) Maybe some early type of gasket sealer.

As for coin detecting I pulled 2 returnable cans, 3-dimes, and 5 pennies, and a large heavy brass lock pc that had been cut. Friend pulled 1-penny and some aluminum and maybe 3-4 bottles. Got our workout for the day.

Going to try a new location tomorrow.

Now that you have been posting I have been out land detecting, I was all set to do some underwater detecting when I inadvertantly broke one of my battery terminals on my u/w detector so I did the surface area of a local state beach.

My haul was 8 pennies, 1 quarter, 2 dimes, 4 nickles a mans ring and a silver necklace with a gold pendant holding a chunk of cut crystal.

I went out today and found these in about 30 minutes at an elementary school in a town next door called Warner.

7 pennies, two quarters, a nickle and a unicorn pendant.

I went out yesterday for awhile (couldnt get the all day hunt going....wife had me painting the trim in the kitchen now...)..picked up handfulls of worthless junk and a coffee can...

Went today for a bit (got cold and started raining) and found a link from a logging chain and quite a few hunks of galvanized metal...

no goodness yet, but i've only started a 1' wide area, the entire width of the park.

Tomorrow going to the Housing Commission and moving all of their computers/network/printers etc to new offices for them... Might hit the old school while I'm there.

RD those finds are what keeps us going. I have a container thats filling up again and the change needs to be rolled. My rainy day fundage. That beach looks promising for sure. I can only imagine it packed with folks and them losing things there. Thanks for posting pictures its great to see what others have found. I am trying to get this photo thing down too. Ive just been to busy with the outdoors (before winter) chores, and getting this rummage sale organized.

Iron hopefully you will start finding more goods there. Whats say you about the ring you found? silver? gold? real diamond? details man??
Surely that park has to have some silver in it.

Just hoping this headache goes away. Been there all night. I hate having to deal with these things. Good luck today guys.

So..today at the commission..spent about 7hrs there and I tell the maintenance guy, If you ever come across people digging with a backhoe etc again, keep the bottles for me.

He says, "Oh, there are some over there behind the garage that we found when we dug the garage out." I had maybe 5 mins to go through there while waiting for the guy from Charter to get there and fix his cabling mistakes so I could run the network..... These were on the surface all within 5 feet of each other..

The garage was at the top of a 20-30 foot slope that was probably 100yds long. There was a big dropoff at the low point of the slope, 10-15 feet...I walked around from the end and saw this wall...gorgeous. All hand laid stone from 100yrs ago. tons of grass i'm going to have to pick through. When they mow, they just dump it on the slope and there is probably 3' tall x 5' wide and same length as the slope.

2 clear apothecaries
a shard from a deep aqua blob top soda. Could only see a bit of the embossing "slick"...
an older dark green wine bottle.

I have to go back there tomorrow to finish a few things. I'm going to borrow their their tools.

Maintenance guy also asked me when I was going to go MD'ing at the old school grounds and said I should MD along the backside of the bldg we were at today because that bldg is super old too...If it's not raining I'm going to be a busy boy.

Did a smaller section of the fairgrounds today. I came away with 42 (6 quarters 10 dimes and 26 pennies) coins and my friend got 26 (2 quarters,6 dimes 1 nickel and 17 pennies). Mostly clad stuff/pennies. However, I did get one very nice 1942 Mercury dime. was about 6 inches down and grade XF.

We also found our share of copper wire/brass nuts/ aluminum. Had a nice day for detecting. A bit windy but the rain stayed away. No rings today. No one else there but fishermen, and the grounds maintenence crew.

did you dig that merc in dirt or in gravel? I hate digging gravel. Such a slow process working your way down...Nice finds and sounds like you had a nice quiet day out with a buddy! can't beat that.....well..unless you're finding rings every dig.

Iron- we actually dug in both types of soil. But the Mercury dime was found out in the grass where the autos park. I dont know what year they started the fair here at this location but I do remember in my teens going there about 72-73 I suppose. I will have to check with the workers or the admin people.

Thinking I should switch up and use the MXT-P because I think that silvers going to be down about 8 inches or more with the driving over the area all those years. On a good note most of the quarters were found close to the roadways and shallow. None of them older than 1967.

I rolled up my change including yesterdays I tossed in, have 20.00 now rolled and probably a good handful of misc change still left. Not sure if I will get out today (rummage sale prep).

Tow- Ya gotta go, to find that stuff......And didnt you say you have a G-1500? with a machine like that you should be out working it....BEFORE the snow flies. Thats why I am trying to get usage out of mine.

I'm going to be out all day tomorrow to "practice" for the weekend at the farm.

Going to head into the woods Sat and Sun and put it in all metal mode, until it gets too trashy. Quite a few native americans camped there because it was very close to lake superior. Also quite a few old logging roads, old farms that haven't been touched in 40years..all that kind of goodness...and of course, digging the older dump (what a chore...so many beer bottles) and hunting with my daughter and son.

Wish we were staying for a couple weeks....come deer season we'll be there for at least a week...

Well, good luck to all. I may get out a bit today at the fairgrounds. However, I have a few last minute things to do before the rummage sale tomorrow.

The nice thing about the fairgrounds is they marked a white line for parking thats still there. It gives me s starting point because I was west of the line. (also near that line was where I found that `42 merc). Just going to drive the car in the middle and start there. And work to the east. Need to make some boundary flags.

Does anybody recognize the lady? I think she was gold plated at one time.

Is this stuff you found metal detecting or working a dump area? That lady figure looks to be roman type ?. That 5 shot cylinder is most likely from an old .38 Short or 32 short (many made Colt short/longs/ S&W etc). Not sure what that wire object is. Stoppers are always interesting to find. Last one I got was an aqua color. Couldnt find any bottle to go with it.

Rich,
The wire thing is a stirrup off of a saddle. These were metal detected. We also found some buttons. There were some metal clasps and other parts which makes me think they were in a ladies trunk. The stirrup is small so I don't think it was a mans.  This was located on a hill at our ranch. I want to go dig a little deeper & check
for bottles. The cylinder was found at a dugout in a different pasture as the hill. It was fun to find. It is the 3rd gun thing we have found. The others being a Little Daisy pop gun and a Harrington & Richardson top break revolver 32  (according to the forum members).
