Very cool. I cringed when I saw the chip on the lip, though. Why's it always the good bottles?

Hey Mr. Mayor & Joe,

I would really like to see some more nature pictures of what looks to be Jno. M. Siegrfried & Co, yes? That Derrick is superb! I hereby nominate that to be the Most Excellent Dug Druggist of 2012.

I wonder if the Texans or Sooners have anything to compare.

and, I totally forgot to ask if there's maker info? Is this the first of these that any of you have seen or heard?

It's amazing just to have spotted it in that slop.

Very nice Joe. Love the detail.
So is it the first of its kind?

Hey Joe,

I'd want to be looking in around & under 30 Main St., per the 1886 Bradford Olean Directory,

"Siegfried H. J., (J. M. Siegfried & Co.,) druggists.
30 Main.
SIEGFRIED JOHN M. & CO., Druggists,30
Main."

"HENRY J SIEGFRIED druggist Bradford was born in Mercer county Penn March 5 1853 the eldest son of Daniel M and Anna Myers Siegfried natives of Berks county Penn of German and English ancestry who now live in Dakota After leaving school Mr Siegfried began clerking in a drug store at Franklin Penn and later took up the study of pharmacy. In 1880 he removed to Bradford where he became established in business himself and has built up a large trade He makes a specialty of compounding physicians prescriptions and has a goodly share of that branch in the business in the city He is recognized as a careful and reliable pharmacist and his honorable and upright dealings with his customers have gained the confidence of the community Mr Siegfried was married August 11 1885 to Miss Marion Baker daughter of Daniel Baker of Allegheny City Penn Mr Siegfried is a member of the German Reformed Church his wife of the Methodist Episcopal Church In politics Mr Siegfried is a Democrat He is a member of the Masonic fraternity." Nice bottle, Tom. With all of your great finds, you should get a camera!  I wonder what other types of bottles this guy made and where this one was blown.

Surf,...My sentiments exactaly!  We actually saw it floating in the mud, and figured it was just another plain jane, ...I did the glove wipe and noticed the wording, then I saw the derrick!....I've never seen or heard of another... Nor dug a partial one even, but rumor has it that another local digger found shards of one some years ago and kept them...

Tony! The detail IS amazing,...I cannot imagine making that mold, so it would be recognizable as an oil derrick...an undeniably cool bottle. Here's a pic of it's base.

Good research, Surf.  I'm not sure what is on that street now, but I'm going to look.

Joe, is there a number or letter below the W.T. & CO. ?
I can get a better date on the bottle with it.

That's quite an extraordinary pictorial druggist, It blows mine with an embossed mailbox out of the water!

Even if it wasn't a rare unknown bottle, it would still probably bring 100+ from all the druggist collectors who collect pieces with interesting embossed images.

Great find!

WT & Co took the "&" out of their base embossing in 1901, so it's at least that old.. and I agree, when it comes to pictorial embossing, that one is very hard to beat..!
