hi--everyone posting two very early Hires paper label bottles . Got both of them from a gentlemen in PA, how found them in the rafters , of a barn a few years back . The Hires bottle has medallions embossed on the mid-section , and Hires embossed twice on the heel of bottle. the Hires Ginger Ale , has to be quit rare . At first thought it was a fake , because i've never seen a hires Ginger Ale . before . The original cap still stuck on the bottle reads Hires Ginger Ale , so it's the real thing . Has Hires embossed on the neck , and air bubles in the glass . can anyone help me on value of the ginger ale ? -- thanks . will post pics . later

Hey Piero, Welcome to the forum. Without the labels the bottles would only be worth a few bucks but with labels, since I have never them before, I can't say. You did put a new light on one thing though. Everyone I know thinks the aqua bottles were root beer but now I know they were ginger ale. Ya learn somethin every day.

Hello Richard, I found quite a few of them when I was digging in Cincinnati back in the seventies. I believe they are pretty common in this area, not so in other areas I am sure. If I can get to the boxes, I will see if I can find mine. Here is one I have in the house, but it is a soda & mineral water not ginger ale. There are several different variations of this soda displaying the star. Will try and locate all the different ones I have. I do not know the values of bottles, and do not claim to , but once in a while there is one here and there I know as for value, more so in my area. I will try and get hold of a local fellow who has been in the business of selling Cincinnati bottles for years and see if he can give me an estimated price for you, Lou

Been okay Richard, but you could have not mentioned Xmas, spent the last couple of days in the city sitting on the corner begging for money for which to buy Xmas gifts (really for to buy bottles with) but pickings were thin !
Weather here is cold as well, but I believe we are supposed to get back up into the fifties for a day or two. Makes a person want to go out and do some bottle hunting, which I never did manage to get out and do all summer..............
My oldest Son asked for a set of andirondac chairs for Xmas, liked how he waited till the last minute to ask ! Think I will just give him a lump of coal for now, and do the chairs for him at a later date. And then there is Son #2, so I guess I will have to add another lump of coal to the list, and add another set of chairs to the later list as well.     Been on the kick of building some more wood knives and straight razors as of late, was in the shop last evening eyeing the wood lathe, in thoughts of turning a large wooden bottle, haven't went off a deep end in that direction as of yet, was eying the cabinet plans you sent me as well, doing some figuring on on a material list. Too many things I want to do and little time to do any of them as usual.

Hi Sodaman,

On your Hires Ginger Ale with the label- yes they are rare, and there are several variations of the label. In mint condition, to a super-dedicated Hires collector, you might see one on eBay go for $50, or you might see one at a bottle show for $20-30. Hires was famous for its root beer extract to make at home, and the small four-sided extract bottles are quite common, but they also made a ginger ale extract that came in the same size.

Hope this helps.

GAC

Hi Lobeycat:

The Cincinatti Sodawater and Ginger Ale Company bottle, as LC says, is pretty common, even outside of Ohio area. In mint condition, you might see one at a bottle show for $12-18. There are earlier and later versions of the embossing, some with the star and some without. I have an early crown top with the same embossing. Hope this helps.

GAC.
