I would like to put up for auction a small medical department bottle from the United States Navy.  Pre 1900 it's a little over 3" tall  clear with embossing on two sides.  There are two what I think are mold blemishes on the back side of the neck.  Otherwise it's in great shape.  Now I don't know how common these are so I'm starting the bidding at $5.00.  I'll also pay for the shipping to the winning bidder.  I think this site is an invaluable tool for bottle collectors and also there are just plain wonderful people on it.  Now one other thing this bottle was dug near but not on the Naval Academy grounds in Annapolis, Maryland.  So it does have some historical significance being as it was found in the capital city of Maryland.  The bidding will be for five days and will end midnight August 2nd.  Good luck bidding and remember it's for the forum and in that respect for all of us.
Thanks
Jerry Gill

I'll start the bidding at $5 just cuz I want to know what you have that bottle stuck on! It almost looks like it's floating in air!

Thanks Kate.  The bottle is stuck on the spit of 1 million spiders.  And I'm telling you it's not all that easy to get hold of.  The winner of the auction get's to clean it out.  Hey who knows it might be valuable.

Are you trying to scare away potential bidders? Can you post a better picture of the spider spit?

Spider spit could well have been the active ingredient in this medicine! I bid 7.50.

I've been told that those bottles were used around the turn of the century all the way up through WWII. I have a small collection of USN bottles, maybe 10 all together. I don't think I have the 25 cc but I do have 100, 200 and 500 cc's, plus one that might be considered a jar because of the wide mouth.

It wouldnt surprise me if they were used until WWII but the blown, hand tooled bottles themselves were probably made before then. if you know how the govt supply system works you know stuff stays in there forever sometimes. The aqua ones seem to be the more early/rare ones.

Thank you, Jerry.. I thought there'd be a better fight over this one! Anyhow, since it's for the forum, might as well do it right.. I'll donate $15...
