From the Daily Nebraskan 31st March 2004

Unidentified remains found near Salt Creek

A man and a woman looking for antique bottles Sunday at about noon found human remains near Salt Creek between South West A and South streets.

According to Lincoln police reports, officers recovered several human bones near the creek bed. But rain and the conditions in the creek are making progress in the investigation slow.

Officers still are excavating the area, which is set off by police tape.

Lincoln police said the excavation probably would be finished today. As of Tuesday night, police had no information about the identification or the age of the human remains.

I think the "man and a woman looking for antique bottles" must be among those who voted in the poll for this new section

I once found the top of a human skull while searching, the police found that it was a old bone of a woman in her sixties.
but never heard anymore about it.

I found a handful of human teeth by old fireplaces before. All in an area where the town was flooded for a reservoir. Makes ya wonder if everyone got out.

Hey Roger
Have you heard anymore about the remains, I keep an eye open for further progress as it is rather interesting, I would be beside myself if I ever dug up remains of a human.
Regards
Kim

Kim I had a look in later editions of the Daily Nebraskan and the last published report I can find said "Officials finished the excavation of the burial site Wednesday, and laboratory work will be done on the skeletal remains". I doubt anything else will get in the paper unless they can make a positive ID.

Hi Roger
It is disapointing when they don't give follow up info, not that I am into remains but the media often hit on a headline and never follow through, leaving unanswered questions.
Thanks Kim

Golly, Kim! Maybe it was your last husband. Where did you leave the body?

Hi Harry
Oops!! my mistake. Couldn't possibly be my husband because if I was ever going to get rid of one, so to speak, I would make sure there would be no remains to be found lol.

There are so many old mine shafts everywhere you go in most of the goldfields (ie most of Victoria and a lot of NSW) that it would be impossible to find a body with out an idea where to look, so you should be safe Kim . I'd hate to think how many are in the old diggings, there where so many diggers that just disappeared out there.
I have only ever found one grave that had not been recorded (that I know of), there was just a depression and a few broken bit's of un-readable headstone around it.

I have a friend who was out hand fishing stuck his hand in a hole and pulled out a human skull, evedintly it was a military guy who had been missing for two years, the town dog catcher who was a crazy and pariniod guy who kept a box of guns at the foot of his be said thathim and the army officer got in a fight so he shot him and it was likley.
