Does anyone have information about - Siebert’s Celebrated “Corona” Stomach Bitters? I recently picked one up at a flea market. It is on a label only Hostetters type bottle. The bottle is not machine made. I was interested to know where it was from and what time period. I could not find it in Carlyn Ring’s old bitters book – but I do not have a copy of the newer Ring/Ham bitters book.

Thanks

Since the forum has a lot more people since I first posted this I will ask again. Does anyone have information about - Siebert’s Celebrated “Corona” Stomach Bitters?   I was surprised my old account was still here.

Hey James,

Man, long time between innings. I'm finding diddly thus far.

How about photos of the whole magilla? Any more background or intuitive thoughts on your end?

I'm betting Sieberts unknown were wishing it was more Celebrated. So, whadduya been up to?

I’m not sure what happened.  I took a nap under a tree and I woke up with a long white beard.  But I see the Chicago Cubs have not won a World Series so it must not have been too long (yet long enough for Boston to win 2).  I actually didn’t use the site much and forgot my log in.  It was also tied to an old email account.  Later in 2009 I created a new account but only popped in occasionally to read some digging stories.  This year I am going to be a much more active participant in the forums.  My “new” account, Druggist Bottles,  is a “Super Member” so I am off to a good start.  I just felt sorry for the old account and figured I should look it up.  And I even finally guessed the password… after not using it for 9 years!
As far as my bottle goes… I need to fetch it from its window see what else might be on the label when I get home.  For some reason I was thinking it might be from St. Louis (I think I found it there).  But if not marked as such on the label then it could be from anywhere.
Dr. Johann Siegert invented Angostura Bitters in 1824.  He died in 1870.  His son Don Carlos Siegert start to market the Bitters worldwide (still around today).  I am not sure if there is a connection between that Bitters and this one.

Looks like my Bitters in on the DL.  Not quite sure where it ran off too.  Then again I took the first picture over 8 years ago.   In that window now I have two other nice paper labeled St. Louis bitters.  If I see where I have boxed up the Corona I will take some more pictures.  I suspect the only useful text was in the original picture.  I have lots of other strange bottle.  Maybe I’ll post some of them here too.

I'm kind of surprised to hear that you keep a labeled example in a window, I can't imagine doing such a thing unless the label faced in towards the room and the bottle was a dark color.....I hope you find it because I would love to research it for you....Jim

They face the room and they are protected by a porch on the other side.  I am sure the Corona will turn up some time as I never get rid of anything.  I have a piece of a Bitters to post.  It looks like it came from an amber lady's leg bottle.  All I found were the words "Bitters" and "Pre.."   Yes very cruel of the bottle gods!  I think I found what Bitters it was by going all through Bill Hams book.  I have been excavating through boxes this month posting a variety of things I come across. (mostly with my other account DruggistBottles).
