Greetings Gurus! I just dug this object in SF. Stuff in site is from 1850-1890. It is 3" by 2" by 2" roughly, cast iron. There is a hole where it attached to something, and a notch at the top (?) if that is the top. Is it some sort of bottle opener? There were lots of beer and wine bottles in this area. Thanks for the help,

I was going to say buggy step, but the dimensions don't seem right and it's not like one that I have ever seen. The Eastlake design elements should date it roughly from 1875-1900. It's in great shape for being dug.

That's a head scratcher for sure. Maybe a part to a toy or a kitchen gadget.

Would say it is something that was used to sweep dirt or ashes from a fire place in...but again seems to small for that...JAMIE

it might have hung on the side of the cook stove and they scraped the grease into it .. a grease trap?

Reminds me of an antique stove crumb and ash catcher or a door stop I have a glass table crumb catcher that my mom gave me that was her mother's that made me think of that right away.
