It looks like Saturday is going to be the day to bring them crate up.  I have one completely uncovered HEAVY.  While working to uncover the other one we have found another 2 buried under them.  Two guys from the county dive team are going to helping.  They are going to  raise these crates Sat and Sun if nessecary.  They have a compressor and are going to blow air into a large cover.  The crates are going to have a web netting under them and then the air is blown into this balloon and it will lft the crates to the surface.  They are in the middle of the river so we have to take them about 65 feet to the shore line.  The wood is very soft I'm glad they are tied.  So thats is the plan.  While uncovering the crates I found this does anyone have any ideas.  The lid has a little hinge.

Could it be a speedloader or dispenser of some sort?  Fill the compartment part with whatever, then dispense it through the tube????

It was most likely to heat what ever was inside. Like a miniture pot. You will probably find all kinds of little items in the mud when the crates are out.

Don't let anyone try the shinney in those bottles. It will most likely have lead in it. The old timer used radiators and copper tubing with lead solder to brew it with. I don't think it can go bad but the chance of lead in it would detour me.

Any Idea how the caboose got there???

Looks like some sort of grease or polish was inside the tin.

This is amazing, you should do a documentary dvd, then sell it. I'd buy it!

There was a train derailment in 1939 on the double trestle and at the time the tresatle was just rails no top beams.  It seem the caboose was in the middle and turned and hung up.  The decision was made to push the caboose over as they needed to clear this track it used to be a very busy rail section. They do not use it now as a new trestle was built further up the river 3 miles approx.

This retired engineer is going on 90 all I can do is listen.  he may be off on the year I don't know but he did remember where it was.  I can't check into yet because the RR might interfere.  Everything has been quiet yet.  I'm going to work this area for the next 2 weeks without asking any questions.  If you know what I mean.

Arthur,...We have a spot close by that used to be called "twin trestles" only lately a salvage co. removed the older unused one....I always loved it there but since the indian troubles (it's on the rez.) I haven't frequented it like I used to...there were always rumors that the railroad dumped some old rolling stock over the side of the earlier now gone trestle...just down stream from the mainline,I never found out for sure, but the currents under those bridges make a weird whirlpool...It's vr. difficult to navigate canoeing...So who really knows..Thanks for your interesting story....Can't wait to see what else surfaces.                                                         Joe

Your oval thing looks like a "Silent Butler", used to sweep crumbs and ashes into from a table top.
Google the term and you'll see several varieties. They come in many different shapes and sizes, and are made of many different materials.

Hope this helps,

Char
