Very crude canteen like bottle - 8/21/2008 2:56:06 PM    NCdigger5 Posts: 514 Joined: 2/9/2008 Status: offline Does anyone have any guesses on this bottle.  It has lots of bubbles and an open pontil.  I bought it from an antique store.  I don't think it's a repro but am not sure.  It has handles but those do not look like they where originaly on  the bottle but I don't know.  Any opinions anyone? Does it feel like something that could actually have real life utility? Maufactured glass was made to be used (utility) and serve a purpose. For instance , if it has handles, does it look like they would break off easy if you lifted it while full of contents? If it is an odd color , is there a commercial reason why more expensive glass was used? Is the mouth size consistant with the type of product it would hold?  Is the shape similar to other standard industry shapes. If it doesnt pass that reality test then its probably either art glass, a fantasy item, souvenir, or other type of object.
