I came across this while fishing a few weeks back. I am unsure of what it is, if anything. It may just be a fluke accident of nature for all I know. As you can see it is rock with a bowl shape on top. Now is this a hand made object, early American or Native American antiquity. If this is not a hand made object then the only possibility is this. This bowl came to rest against this rock then sat like that for a very long time. Long enough for it to be naturally cemented to this rock. It is on there very tight, I have tugged at it somewhat and it will not move. I know how the Miami river floods in spring, sometimes summer and other seasons. For this to remain unmoved long enough to occur naturally would seem highly unlikely. So I offer up this enigma up to all the better informed than I. Cyberdigger has been kind enough to offer to post the pictures. If they are not here when you first look check back again. I am interested to see what the general concensus is. Thanks for your time everyone, have a great day.

Stuff like that is interesting. My father has a particularly bizarre rock that looks and feels like solid sandstone, but it has the corroded mechanisms from a clock poking out on one side. Looks like what would be found in millions of years, not something that couldn't be much more than 100 years old.

Looks like a piece of iron pipe, or a pipe buttcap fused to the stone by the iron oxides. If a magnet doesn't stick to it, then it could be a particularly well-formed shell of an ironstone concretion fused to the base stone by calcium carbonate, which is probably present in the water/groundwater down there. I am sure it could be other things too.

I'd do a magnet test to narrow it down.

I have looked at it some more, more than likely a freakish accident. It never did make sense the angle it was at. I let my imagination get the best of me at times. I sometimes convince myself I have the find of the century. I guess I would rather dream big than to not dream at all. I just made that up, I should put it on a t-shirt. I bet I could make millions :-) , have a good one all you bottle ppl.

David, do as plumbata says with the magnet. Let me know if its magnetic. If its not I got a pretty good idea what it might be.

Perhaps a limestone concretion?
