The attached picture is an old litho stone I picked up at an auction with a label on it for a Wakelee's Camelline bottle. There is a copyright date on it of June 30,1906 from the "sole owner" Walter M. Willett.  It is seen in reverse because the way they printed litho labels way back when. I am having a difficult time finding a picture of a bottle with this label on it and am wondering if it ever made it out to production. I learned that Wakelee's Druggist in SF, which is what is marked on this label (litho stone), was burned down in April 1906 from the earthquake fires. I love what I have here but am very limited with my education on this subject. Can someone provide some insight?

that's pretty cool. One of the only litho stones I have seen worth keeping.

not totally clear on the process of label making but you could print me up a few copies of the label and I'm good to go. Forgery has always been a goal o mine  and I think I could increase the value of my bottle by 30% or more.
Very cool go-with you have there!

it would be cool to run some prints from that.  You would need a printing press though.

Thanks for the laugh. So you haven't seen a Wakelee's paper label bottle?

I dont currently have a photo of one but they are fairly common bottles so there should be a few around with labels.

Thanks Calbottlegirl. I am especially interested in the labeled bottles and their years of production.

I just posted this on ebay and asked if someone can fill in the gap on the story behind this label. I will post any new information. Thanks.

We have a number of Wakelee bottles.  We discovered them several years ago.  We have the amber  and cobalt Camelline bottles; quite a few in different sizes of clear bottles with a variety of embossed that say H.P. Wakelee, Druggist, San Francisco, Co; a green citrate of magnesia, and I'm not sure what else in the bottle category.  All of these bottles are embossed.  The only bottle that we have acquired that has a label is a small bottle of ether.  It even still has some liquid in it!  We also have three H.P. Wakelee potlids.

Very nice Debbie. Do you consider yourself to be a bottle collector or a collector of all things "Wakelee"? I have a few different Wakalee bottles as well as I am a collector of San Francisco pharmacies and meds among other things.

Can you post a pic of your others? I'm especially interested in seeing the labeled one. Are you a decendent of H.P. Wakelee?

WOW! That is a killer bottle, I've never seen one before. Looks like a good sized bottle compared to your fence board there. Absolutely beautiful!!!

Ron, Kovel's has your Nelson's listed in 2003 at $66.00. I'm betting it's worth a lot more than that.

I'll be on the look-out for one!

Me, too!  This is a somewhat later variant with Wakelee & Co. embossed...

The "H.P. Wakelee & Co." embossing is the oldest, then the "Wakelee & Co." with Wakelee's in cursive script being the most recent.
According to Miller the cursive script embossing is fairly rare. How about an old H.P. Wakelee citrate?
