There are bottle collectors coming into Wilmington, Delaware, and digging large, deep holes in vacant properties, collecting what they find, and leaving the holes.
One of our inspectors ran into them one day.  One was from MD, one from PA, and one from DE.
Our inspector explained they were trespassing, but other than that they needed to fill the holes back in.  They have not been doing that.
Now our police dept and fire dept has gotten involved.  The concern is that either children playing
or a firefighter in the line of duty could fall in the holes.
If you could please get our concerns out to your members.
I can tell you, if these bottle collectors are caught in Wilmington, they will be arrested.
Additionally, we now have to spend public funds to fill the holes they have left behind.
Sorry to bring such bad news to what seems like an enjoyable hobby.
Thank you for your consideration.

A few stupid people always end up ruining it for everyone else.
Sad to hear that.

No matter who it is, that is a BIG no. First and foremost, it's a huge safety hazard, not to mention a big inconvenience to those left to do the work.

Second, it gives bottle diggers and collectors in general a bad name. That is not good for any of us. My digging partner and I made the mistake ONE time of taking a guy (bum) up on an offer to fill one of our pits for cash. Well, he took the $$ and left the hole, and we found out about it months later. Stupid beginner mistake on our part, and NEVER again!

Refilling a pit is part of digging. Those who can't or don't want to do it should find another hobby. ~Jim

Yep, That is why I don't get to dig in Pensacola area much anymore. A few weiners messed it up for everyone. Plus the most abundant dig areas are in neighborhoods that blame this little round Scotish/Jewish/Indian fella for the flood and aftermath in New Orleans. I went to high school with many of the residents and thought we were friends but not since Katrina.

you guys should maybe learn alittle more before you blam matt and his "GANG" .alot of people dig there and from matt's pics it looks like he and his "GANG" fill in there holes. i have talked to matt a few times about digging a pit and he always told me that it took some time to fill in the whole.that being said you should learn more before making a statment like that! if he came on here and made a statement like that he would be jumped all over ,just something to think about  ,matt

I know how that is. I play paintball, and it doesnt take much to get a bad taste in peoples mouths about that too. Roadsign shootings and drive-bys, people playing with their markers velocity set up so high that the marks bleed, the like. It makes me angry because it is such a great sport if everyone plays it right, and everyone that I have ever introduced into the sport has never left a game with me without a smile on his/her face and a new perspective on paintball. It makes me mad that people have to go ruin it.

Lead by example is a good rule of thumb. If you post pictures of a privy dig, it may be a good idea to show pics of you filling the hole back in and the finished results.

See the thing about these digs is, they're done illegally. The old snatch and grab, no time for things like filling in 15 foot holes and restoring the property back to pre-dug conditions. In and out. What do they care about a few minority children falling in and snapping a few bones. It's all about the bottles man,  the bottles. Filling in holes? Your kidding right?
When the only thing you have going in your life is this hobby it's time a look at yourself and make a few changes. Know what I mean jellybean?

We had a couple of fools doing that around here, but a severe thrashing convinced them of their folly. Their tools were confiscated, too.
