I just want to say welcome to any of my poison bottle collectors that decide to come over and participate in discussions about poison bottles.

Welcome to all APBCA members! http://antique.poisonbottle.com

Also, visit my primary collection site at http://jug.poisonbottle.com as I am primarily a jug poison collector.

We will be linking to this forum from www.poisonbottle.com in the hopes of getting poison bottle collectors to get involved in ongoing discussions regarding this rapidly growing segment of bottle collecting.

Hi; and thank you for creating this forum

I am a llittle curious about the difference in collecting bottles in the US and in Europe. Most poison bottles here are stock bottles (and jars) from pharmacies, or pharmacy filled bottles (without any particular shape, but with some kind of " poison label" ); while it appears that bottles in the US were fabric filled and sold directly to the customer...

Did American pharmacies use stock bottles like the ones shown below?

Yes, alot of the apothecary bottles from the Whitall Tatum company, and others, were made especially for the local pharmacies in the U.S.
You' ll find alot of different varients including label under glass poison bottles.
I have a collection from a local pharmacy from the late 1800' s that have the namesof the different medicines, in latin, ground on the front of the jars.

Cecil Munsey' s Bottle Collecting book is a good reference guide for the styles of jars made for the Apothecaries.
