Hi, I found a brown bottle. The label says W&Z malt-tonic , made from malt & hops blended with choice cereals of great nutritive value. Endorsed and prescribed by the MEDICAL PROFESSION. For adults & children - nursing mothers - invalids & convalescents. Take freely with meals & before retiring. BROOKLYN, NY. Looks like beer , sounds like beer. I would like to know what it is, what year and if any value. THANKS

I believe that Welz & Zerweck High Ground Brewery in Brooklyn NY existed from 1883 to 1920. Malt extracts were popular during the early part of the 20th century and quite a few brewers made them. They all claimed to have health producing and curative properties although they had no alcohol . These tonics and malt extracts were mostly in long neck squat bottles and were sold in drug stores.
