Found a small ointment bottle not in my medicine guide.
CAREY"S G.E.S.S. OINTMENT WAVERLY NY.
This is the Dr Carey of Marsh Root fame. He started out in Waverly and later move his operation Binghamton with the big boys.
It seems he got into trouble later in life when he was arrested for murder when he apparently performed an abortion on a girl and she died.

My question is what does G.E.S.S. stand for? His company was later called the G.E.S.S. medicine company.

This one piqued my curiosiy, so I did a bit of digging, and found this, which was listed separatley from your "G.E.S.S" bottle. It looks like the one. Oh, and cool bottle BTW.

It seems that sweeny (or sweeney) is a disease particular to horses where they have nerve/muscle atrophy (usually shoulder).
The ads for Merchants Gargling Oil also talk about treating this.
So it is apparently a vet ointment.

A friend of mine stoped by my house today & dropped of a box of bottles. Had a labeled G.E.S.S. bottle in the box. Still has the contente in the bottle. Boy I that stuff tastes good after 100 plus years.

Also had another labeled bottle in the box. Have no idea about this one either. Not a G.E.S.S. bottle but thought i'd throw on a couple pics. Hope you don't mind.

Thats a cool one. I didnt know Carey's GESS medicine company made a vermifuge. Is there any embossing on the sides or just the GESS?

I have seen several of those Dr Whites with the label. The bottles are sometimes a nice sapphire blue.

The side panels have embossing, but are covered with the label. Some of the label is missing on the side & parts of some the letters exposes. I think the one panel is embossed Dr. Carey & Son & the other panel Waverly, N.Y.
