I have two bottles that are the same except that one of the bottles has O-N 20 on the base at the bottom.  Can anyone tell me what this is?

I thought the 20 could have been the year it was made, but the seams of the bottle stop about an inch from the crown.

Hey Kansas,

The O-N bottle mark is Obear-Nester Glass Company:

  • O-N....................Obear-Nester Glass Company, East St. Louis, IL. (1894-c.1980). Exact time period when this mark was used is uncertain, but a machine-made soda bottle from around 1920 carries it on the heel. See "N", "N in a circle" and "N in a square" marks.

Here is link to a great listing of bottle marks:

The bottle that has this Mark on it is a "Chaffee Ice & Cold Storage" bottle from Chaffee Missouri.

I have three of these bottles two are applied top bottles with slug plate, and the other has the seam going all the way through the crown, and just has plain embossing without the slug plate.

So do you think they had Obear Nester make their bottles for them? If so, that's a pretty cool bit of info.

Chaffee is a small railroad town in southeast Missouri.

I'de hope to shout. The bottle mark seems to be ON so they must have made the bottle for the company embossed on the bottle.

Could they have made the other bottles too without putting the O-N mark on the bottles?  I wouldn't think a glass maker would make a bottle without his mark on it.

I'm pretty sure these bottles are from 1911 to 1920

Thanks for helping me with this, the info you added helps a lot.  I  have been trying to find out more info on these bottles for a while now.
