What do YOU use to treat your syphillis? - 10/12/2008 9:53:48 AM    GuntherHess Posts: 5160 Joined: 12/13/2004 From: Frederick Maryland Status: offline I recently got this interesting little bottle from a forum member. It is a label only bottle from Pyle & Brother in Brooklyn. You can see the prescription was hand written as Quicksilver. Mercury was most commonly used in the 19th century as a treatment for syphilllis. The common saying was "spend one night on Venus and spend the rest of your life on Mercury"  The bottle was found in the wall of an old apartment building. It appears to be flint glass and smooth base with a crude lip. I believe it was made during the 1860s. Obviously not a cure, that didnt happen until penicillin.
