Be careful handling those old batteries...........I just leave them when I find them as they are quite difficult to get rid of in terms of current regulations on throwing away toxic stuff, etc.

You allright there Chuck?

I find lots of those things in the water. From time to time I find them in boxes with ceramic dividers. I also leave them but I usually figure that I'm at least in an older area . . .

I believe they were called a Dry Cell car battery.  I have dug them in clusters of 6 or more.  I think that the center rod is solid carbon. Not much different than todays flashlight batteries, just bigger.  Probably not effective as todays wet cell batteries.

I dug over 100 of those things out of a hole at an old homesite. Too bad those carbon rods arent valuable like the platinum in converters.
