Alright, I know this is a bottle forum, but here is an item I have had for several years now, and I have never found anyone that could tell me exactly what this item is. It measures roughly 6 3/8" in length, strainer measures a little over 2 inches in diameter across the top, and swings on two pins. The bottom looks to be sort of a pot roughly a half inch deep. The bottom of it is incised PATENTED MAR. 1, 1910. Neat vintage item, but I have no idea as to what it was used for.

My guess is a tea strainer gadget.

Yes, it does resemble a tea strainer....there are quite a few tea strainers on EB, but none quite like yours.  Maybe you have a rare one....

It's actually a very clever design. You turn the pot to the side, strain the tea over the cup and turn the pot under the collander. It catches the drips. Most strainers are a single strainer or a two piece.

Thanks all for the info, never would have thought it to be a tea strainer. Not knowing what it was, I was unable to try and do a search on it. Thanks again, Lou

Have you ever tried entering the patent date on Google Patents.  Be patient, takes a while.  However : I never had any luck just using the date.

Yep, it's a tea strainer.

Go to Google Patents.  Enter   Tea Strainer March 1 1910

You will see all the patent details.  Enjoy.

Thanks  logueb, went back and had a look, but didn't find anything like the one I have. Seen a strainer, but none with a flat base underneath it. Was interesting though.

My apology LC.  Forgot to give you the piece of info that had me thrown off the track on this one.  Its called an "Island"  After you go to Google Patents/ Tea stainer March 1 1910/ then open the one that says Island.  It was the first listing on my computer.  Sorry I left that out.

Anyone know an easy cross reference for patent numbers verses time frame?

Thanks logueb, but I still get nothing referring to a island. This is the first of two links I get shown below.

Patented Mar. 29, 1910. Application filed March 26, 1908. Serial jto. ...

Thanks again logueb, I did the same search as you, but did not get the same results for some reason. That does look like the one I have. Thanks again for your efforts, Lou

Lou, Were you able to copy the info on the patent? If not, when you bring up Google Patents, type in 950888, then click on Island.  You gotta have this info to go along with your thingy.  It's a great to have this design info on one of your collectibles.

No problem, It was actually my first successful attempt at a Google patent search. You just have to keep narrowing down the list.

Wow, that's a great resourse, thanks!!! Never knew it was there.
I tried to find the Wyeth dose bottle. It took a while as they spelled WYETH as WYETII. I gues they couldn't make out the cross bar. Anyway, according to that I can date my Pat. App For to between April 20, 1899 and May 16, 1899. It sure didn't take long for this.  Over 100 and narrowed to less than a month. Of coarse there was probably some overlap.
Unless I'm reading more into than there is.
