Hello! I am not a collector, but I felt like this is a good place to post this. I feel bad about joining the forum just to ask this question. Anyway here is the story. I found this in a wash out area of my driveway, Looks like it was in the ground about 5 inches. Has the mold marks up to where I can see. Cant confirm under the cap as I have not removed it. There is a liquid still in the bottle. Any ideas?

A small illusion here. the tape is at the bottom. Its about 5 inches long.

Round by 6 inches.

I think that's a 7 and a 2 under the <(I)>mark.

A indented ring around mid neck.

Some type of fluid in the bottle. It does not have any cracks.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Keith

Edit: Thanks cyber good info.

Yeah that angle was tricky. I looked at the pic, and had to go look at the tape again.

Hey Keith,

Welcome to 20th Century Show & Tell. Don't feel bad. Enjoy the forums & send in a donation if you learn and enjoy.

Your amber bottle is base marked: "L in an oval..........W.J.Latchford Glass Company, Los Angeles, CA (1925-1938); this became the Latchford-Marble Glass Company (1938-1956); and then, Latchford Glass Company (1957-c.1989). Mark was first used approximately 1925, although during the "Latchford-Marble" era, the mark "LM in an oval" was used instead." From.

It's form might have contained any of many different products. Where there is one bottle, often there are others. Not saying it's time to call in the heavy equipment, but you might have a good look around your property.

Thanks for the welcome, and information. I might as well dig my grave as well, because my wife would kill me if I start digging up the yard!!

Surfaceone is right, welcome to the forum friend, lots of information here for everything you could possibly want to know about bottles.

But surfaceone, I think the mark on the base is the Owens-Illinois I in and O with a diamond. This dates the bottle from approx. 1929 up until 1957 but it could be later than that. The number on the left of your logo in the picture is a number 7, which means the bottle was made in the Alton, Illinois plant. The other number I can't really make out, but that would be your date code. I'm not sure how that always works and since I can't see the number in the picture, it can be as old or as young as I said before.

There's lots of information about bottle marks right here.

Yes it is not a L. I looked at it again with a magnifying glass. It is most deffinitly Owens-Illinois according to the link. The picture is bad, and hard to see. The 7 is clear, but the other number is questionable even with the magnifying glass. It closely resembles a 2, but cant be certain.

In any case its pretty cool to me.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Hey Kenneth,

Thanks for the correction. Could'a swore that was an L in an oval, but sharp eyes hasn't been my strong suit for some time now. You'd think, by now, I'd be able to see an Owens-Illinois mark at 30 paces. Sheesh...

From.
