Why are they so popular, hard to find, and worth so much?  What were they used for?  Basically just give me the history on these!

From what I have heard it was another poor attempt of the government to regulate peoples alcohol use. There is a collectors book on these bottles that would probably give you a lot of info. Some of them are pretty rare , some arent. The ones with embossed palmettos seem to generally sell better.

Wasn't the mini-bottle used in South Carolina until recently also a form of governmental control of alcohol consumption?  Maybe these mini-bottles could be sleepers if they will no longer be used?  Do airlines still use these mini-bottles?

NC,
It is because of those three ingredients. They are popular because they are hard to find, which makes them more valuable and more desireable to acquire, thus they are popular. Which came first the chicken or the egg?

which operated from 1893 to 1907 statewide and until 1916 in some counties.

Sounds like a time frame interest too.
